Soldier Blocks and Quilts

Piecemakers Quilt Club participates in the Home of the Brave Project.  Member  make blocks for quilts which are presented to Kentucky families who have lost soldiers while in Afghanistan and Iraq.  The pattern used is the same "x-block" pattern used by the US Sanition Commission (later became the Red Cross) during the Civil War.   Members contribute individual blocks for this project using civil war reproduction fabrics. The quilt tops are quilted and bound before being persented to families members.

Home of the Brave quilts displayed at the 2010 quilt show at the Glema Mahr Center.

We use the Home of the Brave pattern, which can be found here.

If you or your group would like to make a quilt in honor of America's fallen heros, you can find more information at The Home of the Brave website.
